Ever since seeing some amazing pictures of fire spinning on Flickr, I've been really keen to try it out for myself. So, one night at a secret beach location south of Edinburgh, I gave it a go with a bit of help from a friend.
Basic ingredients for this (available from any DIY store) - fine wire wool, an egg whisk, a length of chain, a 9 volt battery, old clothes and something to protect your head and hands from sparks and (just in case) a fire extinguisher. Finally a camera with tripod and a long exposure setting on it completes the gear. Sorted.
I found the best time to do this is at dusk so you can still see the blue glow of the sky, but not enough to distract from the lovely lines of the sparks.
This was my go at doing a whole ball of fire, took me a while to get right(ish) and in the end I decided the symmetry was a bit off, so I used PS to make my own symmetry and combined two halves which I thought made a more pleasing shape. Terrible, I know, but it looks better. The actual fire and lines haven't been altered, they really do glow bright.
Wish it was a bit warmer outside, though! Couldn't feel my hands at the end of the session, which is quite ironic considering all the flame and sparks we produced.
